Sexuality - A Myriad of Diversity

“Love’s greatest gift is to make everything
it touches sacred.”

“We believe the U.S. Supreme Court changed the course of history with wide cultural impact by creating a pathway for same-sex couples to marry in all 50 states,” said CAMFT President Laura Strom. “We congratulate the persistence and conviction of so many who have fought decades of injustice. While CAMFT celebrates this victory for marriage and family equality, we recognize there are further civil rights protections needed for the LGBT community, and condemn the use of psychological interventions to change sexual orientation of minors, an act which is prohibited under California law.” Press release, June 26, 2015.

Human sexuality is multi-faceted and expresses itself in a rich myriad of ways throughout the lifespan.

My bias is that any form of sexual expression between two consenting adults is a gift each gives the other. It does not matter whether this looks like traditional ideas, or “the lifestyle” of alternative sexuality. We are sexual creatures and in healthy human beings it is a life long innate drive.

Sometimes trauma interferes with our ability to trust and to be close and intimate with another person. The trauma does not have to be sexual in nature to do this. I have extensive training in treating trauma from Stanford.

As a former human sexuality educator, I am well aware of the incredibly important role sex plays in our lives.

Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people please click here to read an article I wrote on this topic.

Here is a link to an incredibly thoughtful, well researched video on the topic of gay marriage. It is a presentation by Matthew Vines entitled “The Gay Debate: The Bible and Homosexuality”.

Two-Spirits: Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer (LGBTQ)

Two Spirit is an over arching term adopted in 1990 by Native people to cover people who might be termed gay, lesbian, dyke, femme, transgender, transvestite, transsexual, inter-sexed, hermaphrodite, and queer among other terms.

Many tribes have terms for a third and fourth gender, besides male and female. Some tribes held Two-Spirited people in high regard, while others did not. What is important to know is that Two-Spirited people were acknowledged and a part of nearly every tribe. Terms for Two-Spirit exist in over 155 tribes.
